THE OBSEQUIES

The mortal remains oi the late Thomas Hancox were f committgd to their last resting-place in 'the' Ash burton Cemetery yesterday, i The 'funeral was " largely ait ended. The pall-bearers were Atessrs A. J. Tyrrell-Baxter, M. J. Moriarty, and J. Davidson (three ot the oldest members of'the staff of the "Mail" and "Guardian""), and'C. Spray (a very old friend of the deceased). The chiel mourneijs Were the widow and daughters, Messrs Frank, John, and George Hancox (brothers), Mr G. Hancox (cousin), and two sisters of Mrs* Hancox. Amongst those pretent wore Mr Robert Bell, Messrs T-, E. Upton and A. A. Pooka (representing the Ashburton County Racing Club), Mr J. Hunt (seerctaiv, Ashburton Club and M.S.A.). Bros.' P. O'Connor, P.D.P., J.HHarrys,i v s, P.D.P., G. Harris, P.A.D.. and J. Sando (representing the Star of Ashburton -Lodge, T7.A.0. Druids), and the-whole of the " Mail'j* and " Guardian <!- staffs.

The service at the Mortuary Ghapel and at the graveside was conducted by ths Rev. U. N. Wright, Vicar of St. Stephen's.
