LOWCLIFFE
A meeting of 'the., Lowelifl'e branch of tho New' Zealand Farmers' Union was held on October lv. Thero waS a good attendance, Mr Johu Brown presiding.. , The business of the tn-ening was to discuss the questions of booking freezing space and of taxation. , The farmers present pledged themselves to book space. ' On the question of taxation, the following resolution was carried :— "That whilst this branch of the union recognises the necessity for increased taxation for'war'-purposes, and recognises also the difficulty of imposing such taxation equitably, ib.emphatically protests . against the ■ undue weight of land taxation placed on tho. farmers, by which they' must pay en their mortgages. Further, tl/is branci o.l r the Farmers' .C^.nion is unanimously agreed that' the amount of land tax paid «ho\ild be exempt .from assessment for income tax pur-
poses.'
