WHOLE FRENCH LINE ACTIVE.

POWERFUL ENEMY ATTACKS REPULSED.

LONDON, July 22

A French communique stateb:—Following a violent enemy bombardment on the Aisnc front, from Cheyrigny Spur to the "south of Corbeny, the Germans at daybreak powerfully attacked with fresh troops, brought up the previous evening, between Hurtebiseand the casemates, of the Plateau.; Their hostile waves 'of assault" jvero shattered by duv fire and, thrown back* to their own trenches.

Our heavy batteries dispersed enemy masses south of the AiJette with severe losses. Simultaneously • our troops brilliantly repelled violent attacks on the casemates of the California Plateau. The artillery duel continues with redoubled intensity in the whole region. The enemy was extremely active Bight time on ■ both bants of the 1 Meuse.

There are lively artillery, duels ill the regions of Avocourt, * Bezonvaux, and on the whole St. Mihie)'sector.

The Germans attacked at two points north of Bezonvaux. After- a sharp fight we completely drove them outfrom some elements in which they had gained a footing. Two enemy attempts to roach our trenches on the heights of the Meuse, near Chevaliers "Woods, failed.
