PRISONERS OF WAR.
SUGGESTED EMPLOYMENT OF GERMANS. LONDON, May 29. In view of the dearth of agricultural and other labour, it is'suggested jfchat it is expedient to employ the 15,000 German, prisoners of war and the 32,000 civilians now, held in England. Germany is finding work for about 1.000,000 prisoners, while the only German prisoners working under British control are a few. relieving the congestion in French ports. Lord Newton, chairman of the Prisoners of War Committee, feels that prisoners could be employed on n liyge
scale. Ho recently induced the Home Office to agree to an experiment in which Cheshire and Shropshire fanners were to engage interned aliens for agricultural work at current rates, out hitherto there had been no response to the suggestion.
