.-.HEAVY BOMBARDMENTS. The High Commissioner reports: — LONDON, May 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports : — "During" the last 24 hours the enemy's artillery was ■ very active on selected positions of our front;, particularly between the La Bassee Canal and {Arrasl In the town and neighbourhood of Arras and as far as Neuville-St. Vaast ■ there was an intermittent, heavy, concentrated, bombardment.-n ''The bombardment of our, first-line support trenches *in the neighbourhood of Loos continued all day. ' ' " Our guns replied effectively, and'in some cases silenced hostile, batteries. Our guns considerably damaged enemy works at various points on the front."
