POULTRY, PIGEON AND CANARY SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Ashburton ' Poultry, i. Jjgeou, and Canary society was held last evening, Mr U. 13undy (chairman) presided over a fair attendance. Tho aim mil report road as follows: "'The committee has much pleasure in presenting the annual report and balance-sheet for tho year ending September 30, 1915. The. annual show, held in June, drew much larger entries than previous years, and, though there was a slight falling-off in the gate takings, probably owing to the war and to other attractions, the show itself was a great success. It is intended to include in next year's show classes for fat sheep and lambs, good entries having been assured should this section be included. This will have the effect of considerably adding to the popularity of the Winter Show. In connection. with the 1916 show, the South Island Poultry Association has asked this society to join with other societies in holding a monster art union, the net proceeds of which will be divided between the association and the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The matter has been favourably considered by the present committee, and will be further discussed at the first meeting of the new committee for next year. In conclusion, the. committee wish to thank the local shopkeepers and others for their valuable assistance in providing the best list of special prizes offered by any society in tho South Island, Messrs Matson and Company and Mr T. Bullock for the use of the Arcade and offices, and the members and public generally for their- generous support."

The expense's included prize money, £136 3s#6d; printing and advertising, £53 18s 6d; electric -lighting, £16 10s; presentations, £15 3s; batik charges and general expenses for sundries, £10 '9s 9d; transfer to Trophy Fund. £13; patriotic funds, £18 3s LOd. There 'was a credit balance on the Trophy Fund Account of £22 17s 9d. The receipts included surplus from prize money £13, and the expenditure trophies paid out £22 Is.

In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman said that the show had been marred to a certain extent by bad weather, but • the entries and the quality of the exhibits had been better than ever before, and altogether, under the circumstances, a very successful year had resulted.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

Mr H. Shanley was elected a member of the society.
