WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND.

QUEEN CARNIYAI. TO BE HELD AT METHVEN. AIiiL'iNGEMENTS BEING AIADK. (From O*uT"O\vn Correspolident.) A meeting of the Methven Caledonian Society, in conjunction with the Methven A. and P. "Association and Red Cross Society, was hold in the Methven Hall ou Monday evening to consider the best method of raising funds for sick and wounded soldiers. Mr T. Twoniey occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of the public. After some discussion, it was unanimously resolved to hold a Queen Carnival at the Caledonian Society's annual meeting on Anniversary Day, this being regarded as the best means of raising a sum of money worthy of the district. It was resolved to ask Highbank, Lyndhurst, Lauris'ton, and Springfield, to-nominate queens, Methven to nominate three, viz., Sports', Farmers', and Trades'. The secretary was instructed to write to the chairmen of the school committees in the above districts, asking them to call meetings as soon as possible for the purpose of electing queens to represent their respective districts, and the following gentlemen w«re appointed to attend the meetings to explain the object:—Lanriston. Messrs Goodwin, Twomey, and McDonald; Lyndhurst, Messrs Dan McKendrv and W. Aitken ; Springfield, Messrs McKendry and T. Doherty; Highbank, Messrs Doherty and Morgan. It was resolved to invite the Ashburton Amateur Operatic Society to give a performance at an early date, and, subject to a, favourable answer being received, to procure a. flag and ask Mr J. R. Brown to auction it during the performance. Messrs W. J. Percy and J. F. Stone were aptminted joint secretaries for the Queon Carnival.
