j There was again a sharp frost this morning, when eight and a half degrees was registered at the Domain weather station. Those gardeners who did not- ; take a lesson from the preceding night i suffered severely. Plum and apricot

trees were seriously affected, and many of them lost tin* best part of their' "fruit. Flower. beds in the Domain and' elsewhere were also badly affected. A. : rhododendron bod in the Domain, i which was looking exceptionally well" ja day or so back, is now a pathetic jsight, the dowel's lying in discoloured, 'sodden masses, whilst the. azalea- and dahiia blooms are quite destroyed. Vegetable gardeners were heavy losers, and many a patch-of tomatoes and' 1 potatoes lias boon spoilt. The frost, of course, would not affect grain crops to any extent, but clover in various parts of the County has been blackened and ruined. To-day the weather- ha* ; been fine, but a little chilly on account of the cold wind blowing .from the snow-covered hills. The. -threateningconditions yesterday culminated last evening in a heavy shower of rain, intermingled with'"a little, "snow, after which it again" cleared. Twelve points of rain fell yesterday. On the North-west -Belt the frost had a peculiar effect, on the walnuttrees which lino one side of it. The leaves of every tree have been* blackened.
