PERSONAL.
Mr H. D. Bedford, ex-M.P., has been appointed Professor of Economics and History at the Otago University, at a salary of £700 per annum. It is a new Chair that has been established. Mr Cecil Leys, associate editor of the Auckland "Star," has volunteered for active service, and has been accepted as v member of the Automobile Corps. Mr Leys was one of' tho Now Zealand delegates at the recent Press Congress at San Francisco. A Dunedin Press Association telegram .states that the remains of the Hon. J. A. Millar .wore interred in tho Northern Cemetery to-day. The cortege was completely representative, the Hon. James Allen representing tho National Ministry. The pall-bearers were Messrs Hawthorne Millar (son), Walter Millar (cousin), Caffin (cousin), 'ami Tilsley (nephew). Canon Small, vicar of St. Mary's, Mornington, ! officiated. Thorn wr»ro wreaths from nil over tho Dominion, including ono from tin* Ministry.
