• FIVE ENEMY AIRSHIPS. ESCAPE ;IN A FOG(Received October 15, 12.10 p.m.) ■V LONDON, October 14. The War Office''states that a fleet .of enemy airships visited the Eastern Counties and London and chopped bombs. Anti-aircraft guns and the Royal Field' Artillery were in action, and the airships were seen to heel over on their side and drop to a lower altitude. Five aeroplanes went up, but only one succeeded in locating an airship, and was unable to overhaul it before it was lost in a fog.
Some houses were damaged and several fires broke out. No serious damage was-done to military material. The fire brigade soon v got the fires under. ■■ :■■■■•..■■'■'. • ' ' . .■;; ' .■ '.
The total military casualties were 15 killed and 13 wounded. , Civilians—27 men, nine women) and five children killed, 64 men, ■■ 30 women, r and peyen; children injured. Of these .casualties/ 32 were killed and 95~injured in the London area, including those announced last nigh^t. ; „ .
