"CHANNELLING HAMPSTEAD."

To the Editor " Guar»ian." ■gi Vj —i saw by the "Guardian" the other night that three Hampstead Commissioners waited on the Ashburton Borough Council to discuss surface channelling for parts of . /Hampstead. I should like to call-Hampstead residents' attention -to^tho; report that these are the very gentlemen who were strong opponents to the Greater Ashburton scheme,: and on the eve of the recent electioii had printed and delivered throughout Hampstead pamphlets telling us ''not to be misled," etc., etc. One clause in the pamphlet reads thus: —"And if channels . were _ laid,, they would carry through the .district impure water, laden with infection from all the public conveniences,-, wash tubs, and sinks of Ashburton." I think, myself/I "should, feel a bit .ashamed to face the Borough' Councillors and ask for their "dirty" water, after concocting such yarns :for Hampstead to swallow, and would like to ask sinco when has the water been purified ?
