WHANGAREI, July 27
A shell for which extraordinary powers are claimed has been invented by A. H. Cotton, of Otakairangi. The claims include that .the new projectile can cover a greater area with flying pieces than any known shell, that it is especially effective against barbed wire entanglements, and that it will make the most deadly bomb yet conceived for aeroplanes. Entirely new principles are involved, and the invention has deeply impressed military ;men. .
A leading New' Zealand scientist has pronounced the invention all that is claimed for it. Particulars have been sent to the Right Hon. D. Lloyd George and to the Right Hon. Andrew Fisher, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth,.' v tho inventor being :of opinion that it would be of no use ottering the invention in New Zealand.
