ON THE EUPHRATES.
A BRITISH VICTORY
LONDON, July 26
Mr Austen Chamberlain, speaking in the House of Commons, said the British attacked and captured the enemy's main position on the Euphrates on July 24. They captured 11 guns,, two machine guns and several hundred prisoners, .whilst 500 Turkish dead were counted. '
Our casualties, in 20 days' fighting were between 300 and 400. The troops exhibited the greatest gallantry and endurance under most difficult conditions, with intense heat and fighting in a network of marshes and canals.
