NEW YORK, July 24

J There was serious rioting in connection, with the strike at the Standard Oil Works. Four strikers wore killed and numbers were wounded in skirmishing between the guards and the (crowds, the strikers replying with re{volver volleys. Powerful searchlights | helped to keep tho rioters in check, but sniping was continued throughout the night and early morning. A score of strikers tried to reach tho wall of the works with oil-soaked waste, intending to burn them down. The guards fired and two men fell. .■Hundreds, .of shots were exchanged.

Later another batch tried to approach with 50 pounds of dynamite. The guards opened fire and drove them back.

The sheriff has asked the Government to call out the troops. . The strikers demand 15 per cent, advance in, wages, -The manager has announced that they must return to their places and work four days before he will grant a conference.
