WAR IN THE AIR. A DUEL IN THE AIR.

BRITISH AEROPLANE BADLY

DAMAGED.

(Received .lime 29, 9.10 a.m.)

LONDON, June 28

' 'Eye-witness" relates the details of a duel at a height of -1000 feet, above Poel Capelle, between a British aeroplane manned by two officers and a great German biplane driven by a pair of engines. ■ The Germans used a machine gun without effect, and the British fired .50 rounds at 200 yards range. The German engines stopped, and the biplano was forced to dive 2000 feet. German anti-aircraft guns pierced the Britishers' petrol tank and the oil ignited and exploded the remaining rounds in the machine-gun, but the pilot kept control. A large part of the machine's framework was destroyed and the propeller blades badly damaged. Though the officers were severely burned, tkey landed safely.
