Miss Carston, now matron of tho Waipukurau (Hawke's Bay) Hospital, and formerly a Sister at the Ashburton County Hospital, has been paying a riving vi.sio hero. She left this afternoon for the north.
1 'Ilie death is announced, at Sydney, oi Victor Trumper, the famous cricketer. He entered a hospital a week ago suffering from kidney'trouble-. He' Has 33 years of age. Trumper's lion IHi had been declining for a couple of years. He suffered from "athlete's heart." and subsequently from kidney trouble.
A I'rc-s Association telegram from Auckland states that the Hon. Alfred bo-akin, late Prime Minister of Australia, who lately,resigned- t thc position of the head of the Australian Commission at the Panama Exhibition, arrived in the It.M.S. Niagara en route to Sydney, yesterday. He bestows lavish praise upon the magnificence nnd comprehensiveness of the Exposition. ITe declined to 'make any reference to hirquarrel with Mr Mahon, which resulted in his resignation. . •■
