Mr G. J. Harper, Chairman of .the Ashburton County Council, has been appointed by Governor's Warrant a member of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, representing the combined district' of Ashburton County and A'shbuiiton Borough,- replacing' Mr John Lanibie, who resigned. i
A paragraph in the " Lyttelton Times" states that Mr S. Saunters will retire from the position of editor of the paper qh June 13,, when he -wH\ be succeeded by Mi- M. Reading. Mr Edward ■ Sa/unders, who has been asso-1 ciatereditor.of the paper during the last five years, will take the position, of chief of staff.
At the meeting of the A', and P. Association this afternoon Mr D. Wood made some very complimentary remarks in regard to the recently-retired president (Mr A. Drummond), and in asking Mr Drummond to accept the thanks of the Association for all the good work he had done, handed him a nicelybound[" copy of the show (Catalogue for 1914, bearing an appropriate inscription. In accepting the present, Mr Dfuinmond was warm in his thanks, and said .'that he and his family would ever prize the gift.
: The announcement was made in March that Sir Edward_Carson had become engaged to be maried to. .Miss" Frewen, daughter of Mr Stephen' Frewen, of Winchester, Somerset, and a niece of Mr Moreton Frewen,.who, on a famous occasion, told a convention at' Cork that Ulster should be taken seriously. Miss Frewen is a. charming young lady, and by his marriage with her Sir Edward parson will become connected with Lady Randolph Churchill, to whose sister Mr Moretoii Frewen is married. Sir Edward Carson is in his. 60th year. He married the late Lady Carson in 1879, and .has been a widower since April of jasfc • year. > No date has yet been fixed for the wedding. , ' : '■'! ;
