CHRISTCHURCH DAY BY DAY.
It is proposed to start a motor-bus service in Christchurch.
j At a mooting held in Christchurch yesterday a committee was appointed to further the project of establishing an open-air school for children who have been contacts of tuberculous patients.
A deputation representing the Canterbury /Prohibition League waited on Sir Joseph Ward yesterday afternoon at the League's rooms. ,The proceedings were not open to the Press.
A membership campaign for the V.M.C.A. was set in operation yesterday, and will continue throughout the week. Twelve teams are at work, and the object is to increase the membership by 500. Fifty new members have already been secured.
The Christchurch office of the Labour Department has at present between 200 and 300 applications from men desiring work. The department is doing its best to find work for the. applicants, and yesterday morning 20 men; were sent to the Ross gold mines, while on Saturday another 20 will be found work on road construction under the Public Works Department. The amount; of :■ employment offering at present, however, will absorb only a very small; proportion of the unemployed.
