Mr W. C. Roberts was a passenger for the norch by this afternoon's express.

- Dean Rcgnauk and Dr. Kennedy (rector of tor,. Puuick'f, (College, Wellington),' passed through Ashburton by the first express this morning.

Mr H. A. Flower, formerly of Ashburton, and now of Wanganui, arrived in Ashburton this morning by the first express, lie will spend a few days here.

Mr Snodgrass, who has been manager of-the BanK of New Zealand, Napier, for some years, intends to retire in July next, after which he will take np his residence at Tauranga, He will be succeeded in Napier *by 'Mr Batehlor. Mr Snodgrass was manager at Ashburton prior to going to Napier.

At a social held in the High School last evening, occasion ivas taken to bid farewell to Mr J. A. Gordon, M.A., who has decided to take a trip to the Homo country. .T]<o Headmaster (Mr \V. F. WattorO. ;.i making a presentation to Mr Gordon of a travelling bag and dressing case, spoke of tho pleasant relations that had existed- between Mr Gordon' and his colleagues and pupils, and of the good work done by Mr Gordon, in his two years' service in the School, especially his active interest'in the School Debating and Swimming Clubs. Mr Gordon had shown himself a good teacher, and staff and pupils regretted his departure, but wished him a pleasant voyage,' a profitable holiday, and a safe return to New Zealand. Mr Gordon, in reply, spoke of the pleasant time he had spent in the School, and regretted severing his connection with it. He wished the pupils all success in the coming year both in work and in play, and hoped before, very long to meet, them all again. The function 'terminated with hearty cheers for Mr Gordon.
