SWIMMING.

TINWALD CLUB

The annual meeting of the Tinwald Swimming Club was held on Monday' evening. Mr J. Cow presided over an attendance of about 60. ■ ■ ; - ■

The secretary read the annual report, which stated that there had been. a slight failing off in the number of financial members during the year, principally in ladies and schoolboys. The sum of £81 had been received in subscriptions and donations, which was £3 ■ lefis than the amount received last year. Several gentlemen had this year, however, made donations of trophies. Despite -the fact that 'the club had expended approximately £17 on improvements at the baths and allotted £10 more in prizes than last year, a credit balance of over £22 would be carried forward to next season..

■ During the year 12 competitions open to club members only had been held, and 104 entries had been received. The aggregate prize -was won by J. Harris^ .with nine points, W. S. Helom being second with six points. The animal carnival was held on February 27, and was a distinct success. Reference was made to the loss the club had sustained by the sad death of Mrs T. Wilson. The deceased lady had been a very generous help to the club. By his removal to the North Island tlie club had also lost the services of Mr. J. Trevor Thomas, who had rendered the club yeoman service since its inception. The committee recommended that a cup be purchased as an aggregate prize for competition at the club's evening sports, the winner to hold the cup for one year. Mr J. Cow had also donated a valuable trophy for competition. The report mentioned that a vote of thanks had been accorded to a large number of gentleman who had -donated special prizes. The balance-sheet showed the total receipts to be £94 5s sd, and after all liabilities had been met the sum of over £22 was left to carry forward. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of the chairman and Mr D. Teppett. ■ The following officers were then elected: —Patron, Mr Hugo Friedlander; president, Mr J. Annand, J.. : Cow, and G. T. Robinson jjion. auditor, Mr J- H. Bowden; hon.'secretary' and 'treasurer, Mr E. S. Brittendeu; committee, Messrs T. : Carter, F. Clothier, P. Ddherty, W. J. Gudseli, F. McLachlrm, A. Millichamp, T. A. C. Pearce, C. Redes, A. Simpson, and C. Simpson ; ladies'; committee, Mesdames Havu\ Moody, and AVatson, Misses Doherty, Fitch, H'aar, Judd, Lockwood, McKenzie, Schneider, Teppett, and Ruby Wilson. On the motion of the chairman, a liearty vote of- thanks was carried to the Tinwald Domain Board for the manner in which they had assisted the club during the season, special mention being, made of the improvements recently carried out to the bath.

As a slight recognition of his splendid services as the club's Christ-church representative, the sum of £2 2s was voted for the' purchase of some suitable token for Mr George T. Robinson.

The committee set up, to provide a competition in connection" with the valuable trophy donated by the president recommended that the following races_ be held at the evening sports meetings of the club—only one race to 1m; held on any one evening:—Twentyfive yards on back, 50 yards open, 75 y.-H-ds breast-stroke, 100 yards open, 220 yards open; points to count for the

It was decided to open the season ! on Thursday, December 4, at 3 p.m., land Messrs Reese, Watson, Wilson, land the secretary were asked to draw up a programme. On behalf of the Ladies' Committee, Mr Watson raised the question of mixed bathing, at present restricted to one hour per week. —A general discussion ensued, and Messrs Cow, C. Simpson, Watson, and the Rev. H. Jones were, appointed to confer with the Ladies' Committee with .a view to arranging something more satisfactory to present to the Domain Board for its approval.
