Hill (Auckland) won from scratcln m 9min. 36 2-ssec, beating the New Zealand record by 5 :4-ssec. ;R. Opie won a heat of the 100 yds. event, against a light wind, m 10 2-ssec, but did not start m the final. In the two-mile walking event Ellis (Tasmania) beat Kerr (New Zealand) by--.about; ten yards." The walking of all the competitors was not above question.
