METHVEN.

The Weather. Wretched weather still 'prevails, rain falling daily. Fine warm weather is now anxiously looked for. The Price of Cocksfoot. There was somewhat..of a slump m the price of cocksfoot on the Mount ■Hutt roads obtained at the annual sale held on Thursday. Bidding was far from animatedj the total amount realised (£135 10s) being £20 less thin obtained last year, although the crop is quite as good, if not better. ' Mr W.J. Dickie, M.P. Before the Board rose on Monday last, Mr A. Murray moved that the Board extend its hearty congratulations to Mr Dickie upon his election as Parliamentary member for Selwyn. He ' felt proud of the fact that their chairman had been so honoured by the electors. Mr^ Dickie had a fine record for good useful work m all the positions he had occupied on local bodies, and the speaker felt convinced that Mr Dickie would prove even more useful, m the higher position' to which he mid' attained. Mr Morgan, m seconding the motion, endorsed what Mr Murray had said. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Dickie, m replying, thanked his fellow members for their congratulations. He was indeed proud of the fact that he commenced his public life by being elected a member of, the! Mount Hutt Road Board. He fully appreciated the high honour conferred upon him. He had at all times endeavoured to do the right thing and always would. He hoped that Im efforts m the future would retain i'or him the confidence of the people, and he most sincerely trusted that ail party bitterness engendered during-* *vi recent election would fade away .liij the old friendships return. Oddfellowship. The half-yearly summoned meeting or the Loyal Methven Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was-held on Wednesday night, when acting; G. M. Bro. J. Chambers presided over a good attendance. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:—N. ■ G., Bro. Maloney; V. G., Bro. F. L. Rees; E. &:, Bro. G. Ourrie • Warden, Bro. O. J. 8. Moore. P. G. Bro. Stone acted as installing officer. One brother received the gold degree, and three brothers were reported on the sick list. Two new members were proposed for initiation. It was decided to place two members? names on the merit board. The meeting was closed m due form by Bro. J".' Chambers.
