CHRISTCHURCH, December 11. On Friday afternoon, at about 2.30, a four-roomed cottage at Tai Tapu, owned by Mr H. Williamson, storekeeper, was burned down. The place ] was occupied by Mr C. Read, coach- j driver. There was only a small insurance on the building, and none on the furniture, the whole of which was completely destroyed. WANGANUI, December 10. A six-roomed house owned by Charles Drew, of New Plymouth, and occupied by Ernest Jeff ares, was destroyed by fire this morning. The furniture was insured for £150, but the insurance on the building is not available. NAPIER, December 9. A seven-roomed residence, belonging to Mr A. McCarthy, in Chaucer Road, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. Indications point to a defective chimney being the' cause. , The building was insured for £400 in the Sun Office, and the furniture for £200 in the Royal. *
