WELCOME AT WELLINGTON.
Although it is known that some Wellington supporters of the Government have for some time been moving in the matter of tendering a welcome to the Prime Minister on his return to New Zealand, a' good. deal of secrecy (says the "Dominion") has surrounded the business. From enquiries made, it appears that the trouble .over the chairmanship at the farewell banquet (which was -solved by Sir Robert Stout coming to the rescue of the organisers) is likely to cause something like a hitch. As matters stand, so it is understood, it is probable that the Mayor (Mr Wilford) might preside, assurances having been offered to him to overlook the treatment ho received on the former occasion. The present idea is that a function shall be held in the Town Hall—probably a conversazione—to which admission will be free. The" date is dependent upon the time of the Ruapehu's arrival. It is not known whether the Attorney-General is returning with Sir Joseph Ward, or whether he will be associated as a- guest with the Prime Minister. Finality has not been reached on other points also.
