Two sailors were executed on the Toulon rifle range for stabbing a comrade, forty-three 'Um^ r -[&i} {^i^ceio.,AnJanuary, and stealing three halfpence: The murderers were not. chained, but were tied to stakes, and had their eyes bandaged.
The executions took place in the presence of thousands of spectators, requiring 3000 soldiers and sailors to keep the crowd in order. When the order to.fire.was given, anti-militarists in the crowd attempted to make a demonstration. The gendarmes; intervened, and violent scuffles followed.
