A FATAL FIRE.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 16. A fire occurred to-night at the resi donco of J. Staples, Matheson's Road Linwood, when Mrs Staples, who hat been bedridden for several years, wa' burned to death. When the fire brigade arrived .on the scene, the froni bedroom m which Mrs Staples was lying, was burning fiercely, and there was no hope of rescuing the occupant, lflo only other person m the house was Miss Staples, who attempted to save her mother, and was severely burnt about the- arms. Miss Staples was reading by the light of a lamp which got upset, and set fire to a curtain and spread to tho bedding. The insurances are unknown.
