The debate on the second reading off Mr Birrell's Irish Land Bill has begun, m the House of Lords. * Lord Crewe explained that the compulsory purchase proposals were intended to be of limited application. Lori Dunraven moved the rejection of the Sill, an the ground that its financial basis would be disastrous to Ireland. , ,' -••. Lord Lansdowne severely ,priticised the Bill, but offered to join -with the Government 1 m making it a reasonable measure, hy means of substantial amendments m committee. He denied the need for compulsion, adding that the Commissioners 'already, hau more land than they could handle-or pay tor.
