CARDINAL MORAN'S EDUCATION SCHEME.

Per Press Association.—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 29. The Catholic Congress is discussing educational matters. Archbishop Redwood said they had had experience m New Zealand of State education and inspection of Roman Catholic schools, and it had resulted to their advantage; m every respect. He thought they should take means to obtain the system m this State.

Cardinal Moran will introduce his primary education scheme this week. The principal points are that the erec, tion and maintenance of Government schools, following the Dutch system, would devolve on municipalities, and shares of the payment of teachers and »the expenses of administration would devolve oil the Government. For the erection of schools the Government contributes one-fourth and the municipality three-fourths. When twenty heads of families m. any district agree to demand a denominational school the request must be acceded to, although a State or private school may already exist m the locality. Such denominational schools shall receive the same amount of Government aid for erection as the State schools, spread over five years. Teachers m denominational schools shall be on the same footing as those m State schools as regards salary and pension. The salaries of all teachers shall be fixed by law according to the grade of the school, ■ the Government inspector to fix the grade.
