THE PROPOSED LAND TAXATION.

Mr Lloyd George, replying to a question, said that he was -^ared to accept an amendment whereby half the increment of the tax on land goes to the local authority. The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Alvotstone, speaking .at the Lord Mayor's dinner to the Judges, significantly declared that the people might rely on the protection of the Judges m. the Imperial construction of Acts of x Parliament. He added that if any change were reauired it ought to be by Act of Parliament, not by an official. This allusion is m reference to the official jto whom alone, under Mr George's [Budget Bill, taxpayers are allowed to appeal against arbitrary assessments.
