ACCIDENT IN THE CHANNEL.
Per Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, June 20. . An unknown merchantman collided with the second-class cruiser Sappho and severely damaged her. The cruiser, m a sinking condition, was towed to Dover, where an attempt was made to beach her, but the vessel was very lowin the water. The crew were saved. There are no tidings of the merchantman, and it is feared she was sunk. - She is supposed' to be a Wilson liner. Received June 21, 9 a.m. LONDON, June 20. The cruiser has been beached. The merchantman (named the Sappho of Hull) disappeared m the fog. . " . ■ .
