WELLINGTON CITY FINANCES.
WELLINGTON, June 17, The question of the abattoirs loan came before the City Council again''tbnigh,t. At the last ineM^yor, Dr. Newman, maije a,'statement on the city finances, m which h© said that the loan of £15,000 raised for abattoirs had been used for other purposes. The following day the city treasurer made a statement to the Press which contradicted Dr. Newmans interpretation of the transactions. At the meeting tonight a letter was read from the treasurer admitting that the Mayor's" view j of the matter was correct, and apologising for. having made a stattim6sf\o the contrary.
