RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. The North Canterbury Education Board to-day declined to alow one school day to be shortened by half-an-hour, to admit of that time being devoted to religious teaching. This request for half-an-hour was made by a deputation of clergymen at the Board's last meeting. The Board said that it was: quite m sympathy with clergymen m their desire to see children educated m religion, but declined to shorten the j time for the work which the Act intended the children should do m school.
