THE LAND TAXATION.
LONDON, June 15. A meeting of twenty Liberal members of the House of Commons was almost unanimous against a tax on the capital value of undeveloped land, and favoured an increment value duty. The meeting .was unanimous against a tax on ungptten minerals. It was stated that twenty others sympathised with the meeting. The Daily News declares that this "cave" of Liberals is a worse omen for the Budget than all the mutterings of discontent from the v city and the House of Lords, but they are a, small minority m a majority necessarily needing their votes. The general sense of the party and country is overwhelmingly favourable to Mr Lloyd George's land policy. This .tax is an integral part of a great nolicy. There must be i no*' compromise. The dissentients musfe bear the responsibility before the constituents of endangering the greatest achievement of this Parliamont. • Received*.June 16, 8.20 a.m. LONDON, June 15. - The Daily Chronicle says it is claimed that the Liberal opponents of the land taxes number between 60 and 70.
