LONGBEACH ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Longbeach Road Board was held on Saturday afternoon. Present—Messrs J. C. N. Grigg (in the chair), W. T. Lill, J. Small, W. J. Anderson, and! T. McKay. The County Council wrote with regard- .to the proposed conference on local bodies, and asking the Board if it would appoint a delegate, and i name a suitable day for the conference. Mr Grigg was appointed delegate, and a resolution unfavourable to the abolition of Road Boards was carried. It was thought that the County Council should fix the date of the conference. The County Council notified that birds' heads would be paid for at the rate of Is per dozen( (starlings excepted) as from June sth. —Received. The cattle ranger reported that he had seen no cattle straying on the Board's roads with the exception of Mr Pannell's.—-Received. Mr W. R. Williams wrote, requesting that the name of C. Knudson be placed on the valuation roll instead of his, and a request from Mr M. Griffiths that Wm.. Squires' be substituted for his was also received. —The alterations were ordered to be made in both cases. The resolution passed at last meeting by which notice was given that a genoral rate of 5-16ths of a penny in the £ would be struck for tho ensuing year, was confirmed. The Clerk of Awards notified that tho Arbitration Court would sit in the Provincial Chambers, CliTistchurch, on Thursday, July Bth, at 10 p.m., for the purpose of hearing the general labourers' dispute. A circular letter was received from the N.Z. Counties Association asking for information needed for actuarial purposes in connection with the question of Local authorities superannuation. —The Clerk was instructed to forward the information. The Clerk of the County Council wrote asking for a statement of the Board's receipts and expenditure for transmission to Wellington.—The Clerk stated that he had supplied the information, and his action was approved. It was resolved to draw the attention of the County Council to the encroachment of the water race on Beach road which was endangering an approach to the river. It was decided to construct a ford on_ Middle Park road adjoining Mr Stitt's property. , The Clerk reported that after inspecting the road extending from the Surveyors' road to Poplar road, he had concluded that it would not be advisable to use the grader upon it during tho winter months. It was decided to call for tenders for about two miles of shingling on Graham's road. It was left in the hands of the Chairman to arrange with the Bank with regard to an overdraft. Accounts ampunting to £46 16s 8d were passed for payment, and the Board rose.
