NAVAL DEFENCE CONFERENCE.
AUSTRALIA'S REPRESENTATIVE. Per Press Association.—Copyright. MELBOURNE, June 10. Colonel Foxton, who will represent the Commonwealth at the Defence Conference, says he is m favour of a vigorous policy of naval and military defence m Australia. The naval side is at present first m importance. Every Australian aspires to see his country make a beginning with the construction of a local navy, and hopes that m the fulness of time it may boast of a navy, but for many years it must be dependent on the British Navy. He would not reduce, but would rather increase, the present subsidy. These are, however, his personal views, and he has yet to discuss with his coleagues the policy to be placed before the Conference.
