W.C.T.U.
The ordinary meeting of the Ashburton W.C.T.U. was held m Baring Square schoolroom on Tuesday afternoon, when there was a good attendance, with Mrs W. T. Lill presiding. It was decided that a copy of the memoir of the late Mrs G. Bowman, published m the White Ribbon, 6hould be inserted m the minutes. The mdnibeis of £ho Union, who had charge of the tables at the No-license tea on Empire Day, handed m their reports. Some donations promised were reported as having not been yet received, so that the net proceeds were hot a«gilahle,' but the undertaking had proved '"'to '!>o "a'ji 'unqualified snppe&s,. The thanks'of the Union >yere accorded to all those who had assisted.( The Canterbury provincial secretary of the W.C.T.U. wrote, drawing the attention of the Union to the provincial conference'to be held m Tiniaruon September 7th and Bth, and asking that all papers and suggestions relating to the reforms, which are to be specially worked for during the ensuing year, should be sent to Mrs Lill (secretary) so that they might be discussed at the conference, One new member was initiated, and welcomed into the Union.
