MOUNT HUTT.

The usual meeting of the Mount Hutt Road Board was held at Methven on Monday last. Present,: Messrs \V. J. Dickie (chairman), Murray, W. Morgan, and A. Orr. Mr Lock sent an apology for absence. The Clerk reported that 42 chains of Marr's road had been shingled, repairs . effected on Upper Drayton and Lyndhurst roads, a start made m reshingling Lyne's road, a new pit having been opened for that purpose, and the work of grading the upper end of the "Dip" road had been commenced. The additional horses recently purchased by the Board had enabled grading to be carried on without interfering with the shingling gang. It was resolved to effect repairs to the Lyndhurst-Lauriston Railway road as soon as practicable ; that certain persons at Highbank, who had been given authority many months ago to construct water-race fords over certain roads, and who after making the excavations on the roads had left them m an unfinished state, be given notice to at once complete the work or the authority would be withdrawn, and the excavations ordered to be filled m. • ' The Clerk's report was adopted, as also was the Ranger's report. The Chairman and Mr Morgan were appointed to sign the rate book. It was decided that the Clerk be instructed to sue for all overdue rates without further notice. Correspondence was read as under : „ From the Upper Ashburton Road Board, stating that that p;oard was not prepared to refund this Board the amount of any deficiences arising from the sale of unclaimed stock impounded at Methven by the ranger to that Board. —Received. From the Auditor-General forwarding the Board's balance-sheet for the year ended, March 31, 1909, duly certified, without comment. —Received. The Ashburton County Overseer wrote endorsing the suggestion t that an open ford be substituted for the fluming on Lyne's road. —The Clerk reported that this had been done. The Waimate County Council wrote asking for particulars as to how the board dealt with the matter of selling cocksfoot on the roads. —The Clerk said the information had been supplied, and this was approved. From the Ashburton County Council asking what date would suit the Chairman to attend the proposed conference m connection with local government. —The Chairman said that he had instructed the Clerk to reply that any date suitable to the Council would be convenient for him. Mr Morgan had also signified his acceptance of any date appointed, and a reply was sent accordingly, From the Mount Somers Board stating that it would proceed with the transfer of Messrs Kilian's and Phillips' property, now m this Board's district, to their Board, and thanking the Mount Hutt Board for information supplied. From Mr C. H. E. Graham, of Highbank, applying on behalf of the Library committee, for a lease ex portion of a shingle reserve at Highbank for building purposes.—Resolved that it be ascertained what authority the Board possessed to let the property for building purposes. A ratepayer wrote applying for a refund of a portion of rates, which had been paid for the past year, and which had been calculated upon an e-x----cessive valuation basis, since reduced by special re-valuation. —Resolved that the application be granted upon the payment of the penalty imposed for overdue rates, the amount having been paid long after the penalty was imposed. From the County Council asking for the annual returns. —The Clerk was instructed to furnish them as requested.. . •■!:-.- From the secretary of the Counties Association asking for returns m connection with the proposed superannuation scheme for local body employees. —Resolved that the returns be furnished. Accounts amounting to £212 19s 2d having been passed for payment, and other routine busjness transacted, the Board adjourned.
