In the Supreme Court to-day the trial was concluded of Joseph Griffiths, charged with manslaughter m causing the death of a man named Moros, whom he was alleged to have struck oh the head with a bottle. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty and prisoner was discharged. AUCKLAND, June 10. At the Supreme Court m the case m which Robert Lock was charged with stabbing his wife at Hamilton; the jury found the prisoner guilty withoutcriminal intent. Judge Edwards agreed with the verdict and ordered the accused to come up for sentence if called upon. WANGANUI, June 9. At the Supreme Court to-day, J. P. Hughes, for attempting to. steal a horse and trap and issue a valueless cheque, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on. each charge, the sentences to bo cumulative. Hughes has been m gaol practically since 1888, mostly m Australia, but, as an official 'record was not obtainable,'his past convictions were not taken into account. Had the list arrived as expected, the Judge said he would have declared Hughes an habitual criminal. Joseph Hammond was fined £15 for the theft of a gun, Thomas Hammond was sentenced to four months' imprisonment for forging a cheque. DUNEDIN, June 10. Joseph Patrick Jackson, alias James Reid, alias Joseph Palmer, aged 35 years, who pleaded guilty to forgery at Alexandra, was brought before Mr Justice Williams for sentence, and received twelve months imprisonment. William John Mauan, aged 28, for stealing a watch at Dunedin, was sentenced to two years, and Joseph Sweeney, aged 25, on a charge of stealing a horse, saddle and bridle at Oamaru, also received two years.
