ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.

Per Press Association. ,1 AUCKLAND, June 7. Charles Riches, aged 27, who was employed at the Sylvia Park, Otahuhu, was accidentally killed on Sunday. He, laid a gun down on a dog kennel while^ he released the dog. He then pulled" the gun towards him. and the trigger, got caught, with the result that Riches receivedthe full charge,in hisstomach. 1 Death ensued before a doctor arrived. Riches arrived from Lancashire last' November. CHRISTCHURCH, June 6. Mrs Harriet Cook died to-day fromi injuries received by falling off a tram' car 1 m Ferry road on the 3rd. Deceased ! alighted before the car stopped. I A man named John Ernest Woodrough was found m a dying condition, at the top of the Port Hills yesterday) afternoon and died shortly afterwards. He had set out earlier m the day for, a walk on the hills. . At Rangiora this afternoon an unmarried middle-aged man named Frank Coates met with an' accident whic.li proved fatal. He was topping a pine tree about twenty-five feet from the ground when a gust of wind unex- j pectedly broke the top and he fell beneath it to the foot of the tree. He fell on his thigh, smashing it from groin to knee. Doctors attended him 1' and amputated the leg. . OAMARU, June 7. Mary Kilmartin. a visitor to Oamaru from Makikihi, who had been staying here since March, was found dead m bed on Sunday morning at the Junction Private Hotel. It is understood that the deceased belonged to Dunedin. I The inquest disclosed that heart disease had caused death.'
