"STRETCHING ITS TENTACLES."

LONDON, June 5, The New York correspondent of the Daily Mail reports that the beef trust of>Chicago, which it is believed already owns the La Blanca Company, is negotiating to seoure control of the remaining, four or five other important meat plants m the Argentine. The sum at present asked is considered too high. The trust's agents at Buenos Ayres are therefore about to report whether it would be advisable to secure control of the plants or crush them by direct competition. Enquiries on behalf of American interests are also to be made m Australia and New Zealand, with, a view to the supplies of those countries being'controlled by the trust. An authority on the meat trade says that it is well known that the New York Meat Trust has been trying for some time to buy up the Argentine meat concerns, but nothing is known of an/ attempt on the part of the jrcnibine to extend its operations to Australia.
