ASHBURTON GRAIN MARKET.

The following is the market report for the week ending Friday, June 4th, 1909: • Wheat.—There is no change to report m the market during the past week. Cable news has been of a very quiet nature, and both farmers- and buyers, alike, seem to be waiting for developments. Those farmers still holding grain have done so with a view of obtaining much higher prices, and they are not prepared, just at the present moment, to dispose of their holdings without the increased price looked for. This, m the present state of the market, is, of course, out of the question, and it is possible that there will be little business transacted for some weeks to come. One or two large lilies harvested m the county have just been delivered to store, and a sale of 12,000 sacks has been reported at a price equal to 4s 4fd f.0.b., sacks extra. Several smaller lines have changed hands at prices varying from 3s lid to 4s Id, but taken on the whole, there is no changer whatever m the market, Tuscan and Pearl selling at 4e Id to 4s 2d, and Hunters at 3s lTd to 4s. Oats.—There has been a continued demand for all classes of good quality ■oats, but there has been a distinct falling-off m inferior grades unfit for shipment. "A" grade Gartons and Duns have been m demand, and a sale has been made as high as Is lOd f.0.b.5.i., which is equal to-Is 7d on trucks here, sacks 'extra. This; was for an extra prime sample only, to-day's ?ales being, "A " grade Gartons, "is fi.Jd: " B" grade, Is 6d; Duns, ls'Sd to Is 6d; and Danish, Is 4d,to Is sd.
