ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
NAPIER, June 5. At the adjourned inquest on the child of Lily Brown, the jury returned a verdict—" That the child died from exposure and neglect, caused through the ignorance and the final total collapse physically, of the mother of the child at the time of its birth." CHRISTOHURCH, June 5. Mr Thomas Thomas, a well-known Lyttelton resident, died very suddenly yesterday afternoon. Mr Thomas was a carrier, and was about his usual business m the railway goods shed when he was seen to fall suddenly, and Dr Newell, who attended him within two or three minutes, stated that he was ■already dead. Dr Newell had been attending him for some time for heart disease, and no inquest will be necessary. Mr Thomas was a brother of Mr "W. Thomas, caretaker at Quail Island, and of the late Mr Mark Thomas, of Lyttelton, The deceased, who was about fifty-three years of age, was a married man with a large family. ■■•.'." PUNEDIN, June 4. • A winehman named James Paterson, employed on Messrs Pringle and Holt's dredge at Millers Flat, was killed inetantaneously last night while oiling machinery. He was a married man yvith two children.
