NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION.

MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. WELLINGTON, March 2. The dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union met to-day. The opinion expressed concerning the real and pressing need for farm laboiirers and domestic servants was recognised, although there are a number of unemployed m the towns, and many immigrants are coming to New Zealand. Many of these are unsuited for farm work. The effect of the shortage of labour has been that large areas of agricultural land are being converted into grazing runs. It was decided to collect definite information from the various provinces, ..go that steps might be taken to meet the needs or the country. Strong comment was made on the wild cat financial scheme endorsed by the Hon A. W. Hogg, when approached by a deputation at Wanganui. It was resolved that, m the interests of the farming community, chairs of agricultural and veterinary science should be established m New Zealand, and that, m the meantime, scholarships should be established so as to allow students to take veterinary degrees at Melbourne University. The members of the executive expressed satisfaction at the number of representatives returned to Parliament who were- strong supporters of the Union.
