THE BOOTMAKERS' DISPUTE.
CtfRISTCHURCH, March 1. The Council of Conciliation at the conclusion of its public sitting ;on Thursday went through the various clauses m the demands of the New Zealand Federated Bootmal||jrs' Association of Workers m order, ir possible, to arrive at a bpfiis for the settlement of the dispute. "This business was continued on Friday, but it was found impossible to arrive at any settlement, and it was decided to refer the. dis|jut§ to the Arbitration C£mjt'.* '" T]ie G(jijncii"unanimously agxees t>P. the following motion: "That this. Council, while regretting its inability to effect a settlement m the present dispute, desires to place on record its high appreciation of the effort of the Commissioner (Mr J. R. Triggs) to bring about a settlement. His tactful method of conducting the business of the Council has had the effect of maintaining the best feeling between the parties, and during no time was there any sign of irritation. We, the representatives of the respective federations, desire to impress on the Court of Arbi^ trafcion t-hp : necessity |oy . fixing'th'e hearing at $»© earliest possible date, and w# undertake to appear before the Court m any of the chief centres the Court may direct."
