CHAIRMAN LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.

At a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday, when the Board proceeded to elect a chairman for the coming year, . Mr liaye nominated Mr John Richardson. He said that the position of chairman should be filled by a member who was easily accessible. He felt certain that Mr Richardson would make an excellent chairman. Mr Moore then nominated Mr Friedlander, who, he said, had had a wide experience of the Board's work, and had always taken a keen and practical interest m the business of the Board. Mr Russell said it would bo most unfortunate if the affairs of the Board were to be administered by a gentleman living so far from the scene of operations. He had seen the evil of that m other Hoards. The chairman of the Board should be. a resident of cither Lyttelton or Christchurch, or m the immediate vicinity. . On a division boin«r taken, Mr Imedlander was declared elected by 11 votes to 7. • . Mr Fricdlander. in' taking the chair, briefly returned thanks, and indicated that it war; his intention to take up , his residence m Cbristchurch. He moved—" That a hearty vote of thanks be accord)'.! to Mr Laurenson for his oble and impartial conduct of the busine.vs of the Board during his term v l' office.' 1 . . , Mr Cook seconded the motion, which was spoken to by Messrs Kake, Lainhie, I Richardson. Moore, Hay, and Mil.cv, and which war, unanimously agreed to. Messrs Laurcuson briefly retur.ied thanks and bespoke the support ol the members for the new chairman m carrying out the work of the Board with dignity.
