FIRES.
BLENHEIM, February 22. A house on the old Renwick road, near Blenheim, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday afternoon. It was owned and occupied by Mr James Orr. The insurances were £150 on the house and £50 on the furniture, m the Stato office. INVERCARGILL, February 22. An eight-roomed house belonging to Mr Alexander McDonald, a sawmiller, on the Awarua Plains, was burnt on Saturday night, the inmates having a narrow escape. A daughter, aged sixteen years, was rescued by her brother, who jumped through a window and dragged her out. She was severely cut by broken glass, and is now m the hospital.
