ASHBURTON YARDS
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd. The weekly stock market at the Asliburton yards was largely attended, and great interest was manifested m the market throughout. In consequence of vendors accepting slightly lower values for store sheep, a larger number j of sales were recorded and the general tone of the market has considerably improved. The yarding was as follows.—Fat Sheep: *Ewes 237, wethers 186, lambs 26. Store sheep: 3578. Cattle: Fate, 21; stores, 37. SHEEP. Fat Pens.—The yarding m the fat sheep department was sufficient to meet the requirements ot butchers, and all classes of sheep ottered sold freely at rates well up to those obtaining of late. A summary of prices obtained were: Fat crossbred ewes from 10s to 13s, fat merino cwea up to Ss Bd, fat crossbred wethers los 9d to 16s 2d; fat lambs 9s 6d to 15s 3d. Individual sales were—Ewes: 1 crossbred at 10s 6d, 16 at 10b, 15 halfbreds at 10s 2d, 20 4 to 8-tooth three-quarterbreds 13s. Wethers: 13 ■ 4 and 6-tooth halfbreds at 16s 2d; 6 4 and 6-tooth crossbreds at los 9d. Merino ewes: 37 at 8s Bd. Fat lambs: 11 at 14s. 3 at 15s 3d, 1 at 9s 6d, 11 at 14s 3d. Store sheep.—The sale of store sheep was on the whole more satisfactory than has been, the case for some time past, and the majority of the sheep offered changed hands at remunerative prices to vendors. The following are sales: 14-tooth crossbred ewe and lamb (all counted) 9s .6d, 171 fair-mouth $-bred ewes 9s 357 failingmouth i-bred ewes 6s lOd, 34 2-tooth £-bred ewes 13s 9d, 84 halfbred lambs (mixed sexes, small) 9s, 74 failingmouth halfbred ewes 7s, 100 half and 2-bred 4, 6, and 8-tooth ewes 13s 9d, 54 sound-mouth 3-bred ewes 12s Id, 97 sound-month halfbrod ewes 11s (id, 90 |-bred wether lambs 12s 6d, 26 fullmouth half and i?-bred ewes Bs, 23 aged halfbred ewes 4a, 47 2-tooth half and U-bred wethers (small) 9s, 85 2tooth halfbred ewes 15s, 172 2-tooth half and J-bred ewes 18s 7d, 444 fail-ing-mouth halfbred ewes 9s 8d to 10s. CATTLE. Fat pens.— Steers —£3 los, £4, £4 7s 6d, £5 los, £6 7s 6d, £7, £7 2s 6d; heifers £4 ss, £4 10s, £4 17s 6d, £5 15s, £7 2s 6d; cows—C4. Store Pens. —Bull 12 los, two young steers £2 2s, 2 do., £2 los; heifers, £1 13s to £2 2s.
