UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Upper Ashburtou Road Board was held yesterday, when there were present— Messrs C. J. Harper (chairman), M. IStitt ajiil- J. Tucker. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs J. l'.'irrell, A. Horsey and Jas. Allen, and leave of absence from the meeting was granted. Correspondence was read : From the Receiver of Land Revenue, informing the Board that the sum of £26 10s Id, being "thirds" accrued i during the quarter which ended on May 30, 1909, had been paid to the credit of its account at the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd.* From Mr F. Dickens, drawing the Board's attention to the bad state of the road and ford at Spencer's crossing, and also asking that a small footbridge be placed across the stream to permit the children being able to gat to .school.—The clerk was instructed to reply that the road and ford would be attended to, but the Board accepted no responsibility as regarded bridges, and that m this connection he must apply to the County Council. A notice was received from Dr. Hunter of a case of enteric lever at Lyndhurst, and stating that the patient had been removed to the County Hospital. Tho chairman stated that the two properties the Board had decided to purchase had been surveyed.—lt was decided, on the motion of Messrs Stitt ( and Tucker, that on the signing of the transfers the chairman be authorised to complete same. j It was resolved—" That Mrs Mary Doherty, tho owner of rural section Pt. 14553, be and she is hereby ordered to grub up and remove all gorse and other plants growing vipon the- road up to the middle line of such road along the whole frontage of the said section." It was agreed that the matter of talcing action m connection with gorse notices be left m the hands of the chairman. The Ranger's report was received, and considered satisfactory. The chairman reported that the drains along Fraser's road and the Maronan road had been cleaned out, as decided at last meeting. Accounts amounting to £t>y 14s pel were passed for payment, and tho Board adjourned.
