ASHBURTON RUGBY UNION.

A special meeting of the Ashburton Rugby Union was held last evening. Present —The Rev. E. Whilohouso (m the chair), F. Robilliard, F. Pritchard, A J Tyrrell-Baxter, W. Hodgkihs, B. Cassclls, T. Turtill, F. H. Choat, and the secretary (Mr 11. E. Curtis). Correspondence was received from the R. Deans' Memorial Committee, soliciting assistance towards the proposed memorial. —The matter was held over till tho annual meeting. The Moth yon Club wrote m regard to the Junior Cup and accident claims. —The secretary reported that the lettor had been replied to. The Ashburton Football Club wrote respecting the Union's claim of £1 for ground rontnls. —The Ashburton Football CI lib's delegate explained that the claims upon Ins club for affiliation with tin; Union had not included this item, and us there was no by-law covering th<> matter, he was of opinion that something more definite than a resolution of three years' standing should Ik; depended upon by the Union to substantiate its claim. —It was decided to ask Mr Baxter to explain to his club how tho omission had occurred. Mr G. H. Buchanan, solicitor for the Sports Association, wrote, asking the Union to pay arrears m rental for the Domain or to name a member of the Union to accept service .of summons.— Tt was decided that the Union cannot recognise the validity of the account, nnd declines to name a member of the Union to accept service of a summons. The annual mooting was fixed for tho latter o.nd of March. The meeting then adjourned.
