PROMOTION AND PRAISE.
WELLINGTON, February 19. Chief Detective McGrath, who has left for Christchurch to take up the duties of Sub-Inspector of Police, was publicly congratulated by Bench and Bar on his promotion. Speeches eulogistic of Mr McGrath's services were made by Dr. McArthur, S.M., Mr Riddell/S.M., Mr Skerrett, K.C., and Mr Herdman.
